Social Distancing and Getting Some Fresh Air/Exercise

Don’t get in your car and drive to Clare Glen, Gosford Forest Park or further afield to Newcastle or the Mournes etc to get some fresh air or go for a walk

Don’t go on a 4 mile walk around the countryside visiting friends and neighbors.

If you do want to get some outdoor exercise and you are not self-isolating as advised by the government here are some tips on how to do it safely.

If you have a large garden, go for regular walks around that (keep 2 m away from the neighbours if they start to talk to you over the fence or hedge).

If you don’t have a large garden go for a short walk in the immediate area you live in, if need be just walk up and down the road you live in (the neighbours will not think you’re mad, they will understand).

IMPORTANT

If you do decide to go for a walk in your immediate area. if you meet anybody ensure you keep 2 metres away from them at
ALL times.

Look ahead and think how are you going to keep that 2m distance from somebody coming towards you.

If there is not enough space on the pavement to safely pass, don’t be afraid to cross over to the otherside of the road to avoid somebody coming towards you

Alternatively, find a safe place to stand and wait for the person to pass by at the safe 2m distance.

People will fully understand if you wait for them to pass, move out of their way or cross over the road

DON’T stop for a chat or gossip.

If you want to have a chat or gossip with a person you see, arrange to do that over the phone from the safety of your own home.

WHY IS THIS SO IMPORTANT

It STOPS the spread of the virus!

ALWAYS check daily on the government’s advice on all matters of social distancing, self-isolating, as they may override the above.
